I recently got a temp job offer that is a 3 month contract, not too high paying but it's a start. I expect to start in about 2 weeks but we don't have an exact date at the moment.
Today I got an email for another job I applied for, asking to interview. It's a 2 phase thing but the first one is a screening. This one pays better and is "12 month contract" but I think that's standard for a school district and tends to automatically extend.
Am I doing the right thing pursuing this better job while I have a lesser job offer in hand? If I do get this job, how should I respectfully back out of the 3 month job and point to this better opportunity without burning any bridges?

@Starcross@mk.absturztau.be You're absolutely doing the right thing. If you get the better job, just be polite but honest with the worse one about why you want to back out - cite the higher pay and longer contract. The best that happens is the worse job improves their offer in a bid to match the better one. The worst that happens is they try to sound authoritarian and say you HAVE to take the job, in which case you just ignore them and dip for the better one. Win/win.
