some good stuff signal.org has been doing that you've likely missed because people love to be doomers about signal on fedi:
signal working on registration without phone number
signal-desktop will be usable without a phone
signal can now be linked on android tablets
phones can now be secondary/linked devices
cross-device, end-to-end-encrypted backups

@alexia@shrimp.starlightnet.work Signal is fucking awesome. I don't understand why people have a problem with them. The only thing I've heard is pretty much : "US based, so honeypot" and I'm sorry but that's not enough.

@alexia@shrimp.starlightnet.work Signal is great. It's open source, E2E encrypted and trivial to use (helps conversion). Also, have you seen their letter to the US government when they requested data of a user? Amazing stuff.
