@Ashedryden@xoxo.zone local governments especially always fall for "this will bring business to your area" sells. E.g., expensive stadiums. If only they at least listened to locals who don't want their electric bills to go up.

@Ashedryden@xoxo.zone The reconfiguration of government to act on behalf of capital is a core part of the neoliberal project. "Free markets," in reality, are defined by entrenched oligarchies and various state apparatuses they control deploying capital and policy in a coordinated manner. Unless/until the power of the capital class is broken and the ruling class brought to heel nothing will change.

@Ashedryden@xoxo.zone Would it make you feel better that data centers are overwhelmingly *not* getting built, because of the same kinds of things that kill public works projects? (infrastructure deficiencies, administrative incompetence, regulatory barriers, NIMBY opposition). The projects get *announced *fast and furious, but they’re completed at a far less torrid pace.
