@jaseg@chaos.social I had been planning to upgrade some of my workstations including my dual skylake-sp workstation to current-gen stuff in 2026-7 until the whole slop bubble thing happened, but that got iced.
instead, i ended up with a bunch of datacenter cast-off icelake hardware that was too slow for $bigtech but still a lot newer and faster than what I had been using, so I gave it a second life.
Now I should be set for years.

@jaseg@chaos.social the next upgrade is probably going to be early-mid 2030s, whenever I run out of capacity on the storage cluster nodes. They're only pcie gen3 and 48 lanes and as I cram more and more NVMe in it's eventually going to become a bottleneck. But if M.2 22110 drives bigger than 3.84T, say 7.68T, ever become available at a reasonable price i'll be able to stretch them a lot further because the limitation right now is probably slots/lanes, not bandwidth
