Starting to understand a game design point. DOOM Eternal was complained about because it was too technical to play. You needed to understand weapon swaps, enemy weakpoints, and it was about funneling enemies into killzones. You needed to remember flamethrower for armor, ice grenade cooldown, and chainsawing for ammo was frequent.
To accommodate these complaints, DOOM Dark Ages made it so you don't need to swap weapons, enemies don't really have specific "weakpoints" you need to care about and other technicalities. However, to make it just as difficult, they made enemies extremely tanky. Also they de-incentivized weapon swapping by making the weapon swap speed really slow.
The end result is that it really is less fun overall than Eternal. Still more fun than 2016 I'd say.
Sometimes the majority viewpoints on something will make it less appealing for you, and you are right to disagree.
