I think in Canada that's the main method now besides direct, automatic withdrawal.

There are a few other things such as insurance where I log onto the company's website and authorize them to one-time ACH the money from my bank. The only automatic withdrawal that I have authorized is my apartment maintenance fee. Re: OP's original point. I got new checks about 12 years ago for reasons, and I probably haven't made it halfway through the first pad yet.
