About eleven years ago the residents of the Lower Mainland of BC had a chance to vote on a a referendum that would have added a 0.05% to sales tax to fund major transit and road infrastructure upgrades. It was good timing and would have added about 3 billion dollars into infrastructure development by now. Rapid transit. Upgrades to bridges, extension of skytrain.

Some of that got built anyway. But if it feels like we are behind the 8 ball it’s because we are. The North Hore and the Valley and Surrey are seeing huge populations growth. There are no new trains from the Valley to Vancouver because the tracks are privately owned and freight is a priority.
