@M0CUV@mastodon.radio dumb non-HAM question: how useful would this be for setting up a temporary LoRa #meshtastic or #meshcore repeater, given they run on 868MHz in the UK? If the hardware isn’t immediately suitable can it be modded, or is similar hardware (at a similar price point) available that *will* work in that frequency range? I ask as I’m pondering use of mesh[core|tastic] for comms while at a music festival with very poor mobile signal. Sticking one of these up at the campsite may boost coverage.

@WiteWulf@cyberplace.social @M0CUV@mastodon.radio 20m = 14MHz. The blog entry talks about 50-100W setups. Your Meshtastic hardware is designed for hundreds of milliwatts.

  • @WiteWulf@cyberplace.social @M0CUV@mastodon.radio You wouldn't need that sort of power, even a cheap heltec V3 with slightly longer antenna (8” ish) is good for a couple of miles. You can set up a private channel for your radios on #meshcore and you're away. Even a ham-fisted newbie like me got it working in a few minutes.
