@teledyn@mstdn.ca I mean, the problems are amplified in a networked world, but looking at how the software I've worked on has been developed, we went from way more robust verification processes and testing harnesses, to "deploy it with A/B testing and roll back/deploy a patch if the users find issues".
So I stand by my statement.

@danlyke@researchbuzz.masto.host Stand by it all you like. How many of your programs are still running since then? My Sportwire is still running unattended since 2003 on the BBC, but requires a temp to do annual cruft cleaning (my oops). Or are you like that US Navy tech who assured me military code was perfect mere days before a destroyer was left a sitting duck for hours after its os (NT) crashed? 🤣 So yeah, carry on, I won't mess with your beliefs. My and that 1979 assessment still stand.
