Stand by it all you like. How many of your programs are still running since then? My Sportwire is still running unattended since 2003 on the BBC, but requires a temp to do annual cruft cleaning (my oops).
Or are you like that US Navy tech who assured me military code was perfect mere days before a destroyer was left a sitting duck for hours after its os (NT) crashed? 🤣
So yeah, carry on, I won't mess with your beliefs. My and that 1979 assessment still stand.

@teledyn@mstdn.ca you'd be surprised. I was just told that code I wrote for RenderMan in the '90s was scheduled to be removed, but the studio said it was still being used. My blog software has run essentially unchanged since circa 2003. The insurance software I wrote circa 1991 probably would still be in play if we'd not (deliberately, because 80 columns, and expensive disk space) made the decision to use 2 digit years. And it's not that we didn't ship updates or fix stuff, we did less of it.
