It turned out to be easier to get FFMPEG installed (and working) on my Mac than it was to solve whatever the issue was with Shotcut.
And getting any command line program working on Mac without the benefit of Brew is a flipping nightmare.

Apparently I’m not getting out of today with my dignity in tact. Shotcut rendered the first several seconds transparent because some of the first several seconds had a PNG image sequence with alpha applied.
