It’s a common throughline in his writing, usually related to how we pervieve information based on our perception of the source. If the US says a country is evil, leftists might be suspicious of this claim and sometimes assume the opposite (to an extent), while conservatives would happily go along with it.

Do any socialists preach that socialists are too well read and intellectual - and so will consistently fail at stirring popularism? That they all fall into snooty reference laden back and forths of theory with each other, like all conversations are circle jerk speed runs?.. …and can you answer that question without using the term lumpenproletariat? Wut am sayin is, it’d be noice if tankies could juz speak like normal people, init? That’s why I think tankie basically means disgruntled. Libruhls are annoying, in that “maybe more capitalism will fox the capitalism we have” kind of way, but tankies are a special kind of annoying. Disgruntled at the world AND snooty know it all gate keepers. Tankies are as disgruntled as Liberals are smug and thoughtless.

I recall he distinguished between hermeneutics of suspicion and hermeneutics of innocence.
