Home to the iconic Lovell Telescope, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, & the heart of UK radio astronomy – faces losing all its core annual funding of £2.8 million. Unless this decision is reversed or new funding is secured, all scientific work will end on 1 April 2028, and this historic site could close forever.

@lproven@social.vivaldi.net I've signed it, but in a sense it's too specific, it's like conservation campaigns focusing on charismatic large mammals, and ignoring the wider ecosystem. We need a petition about the whole STFC budget and why Austerity under Labour is worse than Austerity under the Conservatives in terms of science, but they are happy to spend large amounts of money on AI. The cutbacks seem to take us back to the Johnson era, assuming zero inflation in the meantime.
