i think it's interesting how french has an affirmative, "oui", for when you're agreeing with a statement, but also "si", for when you contradict it, but there is nothing such for negatives, only "non" for both, which can lead to misunderstandings (e.g. "i suppose you don't want X" with "non" as reply, which is ambiguous as it can either be an agreement or disagreement), which requires specifying afterwards which was meant to be clear, making the "non" basically useless here

@SRAZKVT@tech.lgbt That confused the hell out of me as a kid because no one explained it to me and my kid was confused to. I told him that interro-negative questions can only be answered by "non" or "si", so he doesn't wander the rest of his life wondering why "oui" is an ambiguous answer while never getting it explained in French class.
