@hbons@mastodon.social the current search just comes from nowhere and takes over the whole screen; it's a big context shift and is one of the only things in modern GNOME without a clear spatial model. Plus, it's hard to make it accessible to folks with trouble reading light-on-dark without making the entire screen blindingly white.
Something like this makes search feel faster and less overwhelming.

@cassidy@mastodon.blaede.family that looks better. I also like that it overlaps the dock icons. there was too much going on in the prototype.
