@ErikUden@mastodon.de AI companies' best customers are ignorant, so it makes perfect business sense to destroy knowledge they don't control. This creates perverse incentives, in the same way that a health care system that profits off the sick has no interest in preventative care.

@BenjaminKlein@mastodon.nu @ErikUden@mastodon.de They don't "destroy knowledge they don't control", they use whatever printed texts they can find to train their fancy autocomplete machines. They buy, scan and destroy one copy each of the gazillions of mediocre books taking up space in second hand bookshops. Books that are hardly ever sold otherwise. Nothing unique or irreplaceable. They are not destroying knowledge in any meaningful way.
