They don't "destroy knowledge they don't control", they use whatever printed texts they can find to train their fancy autocomplete machines. They buy, scan and destroy one copy each of the gazillions of mediocre books taking up space in second hand bookshops. Books that are hardly ever sold otherwise. Nothing unique or irreplaceable. They are not destroying knowledge in any meaningful way.

@gnaddrig@mastodon.social if that was true, why not put all these books on the internet archive? Why not add to the pool of human knowledge rather than keep them locked away on a server somewhere.
