One of the most unusual sweets I've seen this season again hints at cooling waters, but in a far more obscure way!
Shōjuken's (松壽軒) 'jakago' (蛇籠) was inspired by a type of cylindrical bamboo basket that was filled with stones and submerged to control river flow!😮

Jakago' (蛇籠 'gabion'), as an abstract pattern, can be seen on kimono, obi, and tea utensils, and has even inspired a style of tearoom vase. The name comes from the basket's likeness to the body of a snake.
