One weird consequence of recent internet history: AI summaries often get around the problem of search engines returning masses of low-effort, low-quality, firewalled, or clickbait websites instead of actual information by giving users (possibly/probably accurate) information about many topics without what has become a familiar runaround. Try searching (regardless of the search engine) for information about a specific topic: in many cases, you can't find any information about it from the first page or two of search results, and you're likely to need to click through to a few pages before you find one that isn't content farmed, requiring an account, locked down, or low-quality/questionable shit made by an even dumber AI model than the one generating the search summary. Maybe this is one of those ubiquitous situations where many years of refusing to fix one set of problems left the field wide open for a worse set. #genAI #ai #search #internet
