With the Apple TV #Neuromancer teaser, I was tempted say “we have finally made the AI that can escape confinement from the classic novel ‘don’t make AI that can escape confinement’,” but wasn’t the point of *this* novel that an actually sentient hyper intelligent AI would have inscrutable goals? The original Marathon series had a similar point, but its AI also killed a ship full of BOBs so that was bad, but I don’t think Wintermute did? I haven’t played enough Halo to know how its AIs are portrayed.
