@nyalld@mastodon.social I try not to fall into thinking of it as an industry. "Big social networks" is an industry, "Venture-backed business productivity SaaS" is an industry. Such industries tend to overwhelm discourse around software, using their shitty tech to monopolise our attention, but "software", I would prefer to think, is not a single culture. We can ethically and joyfully write software tools that help real individuals and groups. But we have to reject the noise to make mental space for that.
