RIP Helen. When @beingtam@mastodon.social came into my life many years ago, she had this plump tabby and mean old cat named Helen. Helen would scratch your legs or your arms or any part of you that she could reach if you got near her. She didn’t want to be touched, and she didn’t want to be picked up. But I knew how to win her heart. I slowly got her to start trusting me. I patiently worked with her for years until finally, she stopped attacking people when they walked by her, and even started showing affection. The last couple of years have been hard for her, but we’ve tried to take care of her the past we could. We don’t really know how old she was as she was a rescue cat. But we know she was old. A few nights ago, we brought her upstairs to our bedroom as we tend to do when it’s obvious that she wants to socialize, and we lay her on the bed, give her some treats and spend some hours just letting her be with us and petting her. I will miss Helen. I will miss her coming up to me to lay at my feet when I’m on my laptop. I will miss her cries when she wants to come upstairs. I will miss her soft purr as she slept with my hand on her back. She was a good cat. And we will all miss her.
