I'm setting up a new MBP from “scratch" and the more I try to port old configs the worse things get. I might actually have to build this up one tool at a time. Nothing makes you more aware of how many customizations you have than starting from zero.

  • @ttscoff@hachyderm.io I usually realize that the supersmart custom thing I had for ages now is a built in feture. 🤦🏼

  • @ttscoff@hachyderm.io Every so often, I still find something I forgot to set up from over a year ago because I didn’t need to use it yet. But then that specific, (maybe) repetitive task eventually comes up again.

@ttscoff@hachyderm.io I do a “fresh start” setup every year as soon as I think the new OS seems stable enough. I pick a weekend and pull the plug. I examine what i have and what I’ve actually used. I've never failed to build a better flow by that Monday

@ttscoff@hachyderm.io well, may I point you back to rhsev/mark-twin? Now might be the time to actually run it ;-) Markdown files as documentation of your configuration. rsync does the rest. Doesn't install anything, but it gets the new Mac's configs up to date.
