am I supposed to be envisioning star trek here, sam? The Culture? oh silly humans just need jobs to *feel* important, says the jackass who never read a sci-fi novel he couldn’t deliberately misunderstand. if Iain M Banks were alive he’d probably gladly take an interview with you so he could spit in your fucking face on camera. what this motherfucker wants is serfs, obviously. we’re going to do more work than ever and we’ll be told we’re happy as our bodies break and we can’t afford to fix them. we’re already being told that what we do is just busywork and we can easily be replaced. next we’ll be told that all our labor is welfare; that we’re allowed to work and to be destroyed by our work as a favor to us. fuck you sam.

@zzt@mas.to altman seems like the kind of guy who reads pop-science headlines and takes them as gospel. Yes, humans prefer doing things over not doing things. But humans also prefer meaningful activities, i.e. not the kind of work altman wants us all to do. People would still be busy in a four day work week. Busy with fitting all their friends and hobbies into their new free time and they would be much happier.
