What are some theories of parenting you were very confident in right up until you had your own kids?

@zachweinersmith.bsky.social we were fully prepared to write a how-to book right up until we had our kid. When they aren't yours it's easy to see them as a "solve for X" type problem but you quickly realize X is not really a predictable constant even in a sample size of 1.
