@osnews@mstdn.social HarmonyOS is an entirely custom, ground-up operating system for phones, tablets, laptops, PCs, and more, and basically nobody in the west knows about it or has used it. The most exciting consumer operating system development is happening not in the US or EU, but in China, but we're not allowed to buy it. Wild.

@osnews@mstdn.social Even the "newest" consumer operating systems we use are decades old. The last time someone tried to start from scratch in the west was fucking BeOS in the '90s. We monopolised our operating systems market to death, with no end in sight, while China is doing all the cool stuff. Phoning home spyware or not, I want to see what the fuck they're doing that we aren't allowed to get.

@thomholwerda@exquisite.social @osnews@mstdn.social oh sorry I didn't see you post this, I sadly only have an old harmonyos device I play with on the old version. One day I'll get an old NEXT device when they're affordable. I enjoy playing with Chinese tech.
