TIL: The town of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania bought a dead body purely for marketing reasons. The town paid his widow a bunch of money for his remains and the right to rename their town after him to boost tourism. Jim Thorpe never set foot in Jim Thorpe, PA, and had no connections to the town while alive. But his body is there. For marketing reasons.
