@Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange I mean there are plenty bublicious businesses imploding right now, but what do you think the bursting will cause? the internet is still here despite the dotcom bubble

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz @Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange Hopefully at least a halt to construction of data centers and new fossil fuel electricity production.

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz @Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange The dotcom bubble at least have us some lasting infrastructure. Much of the fiber the "regular" ISPs (not MAANG) operate on are legacy from the hyped up build-out of the dotcom bubble. The AI hyperscaler data centers OTOH: Their "G"PUs are worthless for anything else other than super-low precision sparse matrix multiplication. Can't even use them for low stakes DSP. The networking stuff might have some aftermarket use. But the rest? e-waste.

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz @Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange given the amount invested in it, I imagine the entire stock market, along with my pension, will take a bath once the bubble bursts. If course we won't notice things going missing, like hosting stock did, because ai doesn't actually provide much of use for most of us.
