Point of divergance: IBM waits for the 68k to come out instead of settling for the 8088
Consequence: as clock performancr of the 68060 fails to keep up with industry demand, IBM pc compatibles switch to the sparc architecture. Sun microsystems becomes a primary supplier. Oracle fails, Larry Ellison becomes a footnote nobody cares about.

@TransGal4872@mk.absturztau.be :blobfoxthinking: from my research, Motorola was switching over to their own RISC design, but stopped when the PowerPC ran circles around it and IBM asked them to make the chips. If they weren't doing that, then the 68060 would have continued to evolve into basically the Pentium
