The grasshoppers used are "Eastern Lubbers," common throughout the southeastern US, where I toot from. They are very colorful and grow to almost three inches long and have a thick exoskeleton.
They are voracious eaters. I would fear them if they were enlarged.

🦖MONSTERDON 🎞️ ⁉️THE TRIVIA END 🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗 Beloved Bert had to locate a wingless variety of grasshoppers that could not fly or hop, so they would be unable to escape during filming. He imported 200 from Texas. He kept them in boxes without food, and at the end of production only twelve were still alive from the insect cannibalism. #Monsterdon #BeginningOfTheEnd
