(boosts appreciated)
helo creatures of fedi, i got a small question about self-hosting
i want to self-host a small minecraft server with minigames made by me on my old laptop, so that i can play with some friends. it works, but the way i join it right now is typing the local ip address (the server and the pc are on the same wifi). public ip doesnt work, and after some reading online it seems that i need to open a port in the router. i have not tried this yet, but i assume that should be enough
but here's the thing; i dont feel comfortable sending them the ip address of my home just to play my half-functional minecraft minigames. is there a way to point them to something else so that they can join without doxxing myself? would a free vpn or similar be enough?
thanks in advance! :neocat_heart:

@Sorro@woof.tech you don't need to expose your ip, you can use playit.gg, it allows you to do what you need without port forwarding (it relays through their cloud) the free tier doesn't allow custom domains and only has a few servers per region, but for smp with friends it should be enough ^^ let me know if you need help setting it up
