Newell inherited significant wealth from his family before founding Valve. Valve takes a 30% cut while acting as a monopoly. I think the bar is so low that him just being friendly makes him seem like one of the good ones.

@TerminalTilt@social.terminaltilt.com @970uts1d3@defcon.social If Valve got into Linux for selfless reasons, SteamOS would've had the option of booting straight into Wine/Proton (allowing it to serve as a drop-in replacement for Windows, instead of just running Steam and Flathub). [I'm surprised that the various SteamOS offshoots never tried this]
