If Valve got into Linux for selfless reasons, SteamOS would've had the option of booting straight into Wine/Proton (allowing it to serve as a drop-in replacement for Windows, instead of just running Steam and Flathub).
[I'm surprised that the various SteamOS offshoots never tried this]

@moses_izumi@fe.disroot.org @970uts1d3@defcon.social They are pretty anti-competitive.Their price-parity clauses in Valve's terms prevent developers from selling games cheaper on competing storefronts. If a developer wants to discount a game on Epic, GOG, or their own site, they must offer the same discount on Steam.
