As it happens, I went out there recently to see the bridges for myself, and they're delightful. So, while voting for new designs, please spare a moment to think of these poor bridges, which will soon be real bridges designed to mimic imaginary bridges that used to be on money. [4/4]

@ossington@mastodon.xyz Spijkenisse is not a suburb of Rotterdam. It's a city on a whole other island. with a history of its own. It used to have an eel fishing industry when it was still a marsh, but then transformed that into a thriving farming community after poldering started. The local old church was used by the Spanish occupation as a watchtower. Across the bridge over the Old Meuse river lies Hoogvliet, which -is- a part of Rotterdam. Spijkenisse is part of Nissewaard, however.
