yea idk I'd much rather have a second season of "The Peripheral" than trying to adapt a story 40 years after the iron was hot

I didn't think about it, but cast lists for this sort of thing hit the public pretty early. There is no Maelcum in what's currently available, but many other minor characters are present. So you could say I'm expecting the themes of racialization and white flight to have been sandblasted off the story
