Do truck and drag share the same root word? I have a suspicion that they might, and I'm about to look it up.

Actually, no, unless it's a really old common root. Truck comes from a word that meant wheel, which came from an Ancient Greek word meaning to run. Drag just seems to come from the word drag all the way back to proto-indo european
