A small city near me just debated and decided on allowing a Walmart onto their Main Street. The city I used to live in was faced with this dilemma decades ago. They approved it, choosing for it to be developed on the edge of town. It proceeded to decimate the small businesses on our Main Street. In addition, it moved development activity away from the Main Street, so all the city planning for housing, roads, and other infrastructure was for naught. And also, they feverishly blocked another large retailer (Target) from building in the city, which would have given consumer choice and some competition. Now the city's life is holding on by a thread. It could easily become yet another Colorado ghost town. I sincerely hope Walmart is a better neighbor now, and that this won't happen to this city as well. #Walmart #MainStreet #SmallCity
