I'm not claiming that the fediverse doesn't have its problems. It certainly has its drama. We even have a term for that. But recently I've been feeling depressed about how little it feels like, despite all the urgent problems of the world, people feel like it's worth trying to participate in changing them. But I see people on here dissatisfied with the status quo every day. And people are trying, often culturally and even technically, to do good and different things. I'm glad for that. It brings me hope.

@cwebber@social.coop It’s easy to want to despair but that just proves you’re someone who cares. Those are the people who fill me with hope. We can only do as much as we’re able, so keep doing what you can. Keep caring!

@cwebber@social.coop there is something in the pattern of things just now that makes immersion in hopelessness too easy. Like an ant trying to stop a ballet dancer in pirouette. I've found fedi drew me out of that twice this week: once a few days ago... and then just now when I read your post.

@cwebber@social.coop In the first version of my vision statement for Perennial Housing Co-op (https://social.coop/@da5nsy/116962546221079367) I put "I want us to want to make a better world, even if we don't know how". It didn't make it into the collective vision statement (https://perennialhousingcoop.uk/about/#our-vision) but I still carry that phrase with me ❤️ Keeping hold of hope, and reminding ourselves that others are fighting alongside of us, is vital.
