@fatsam@mstdn.social The .com crash wiped out around 50% of the market cap of Microsoft and 75% of Intel. And these were companies that actually had good business models. A similar hit to the market cap of Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft would leave them with loans of values that are a huge fraction of their total valuation.

  • @david_chisnall@infosec.exchange @fatsam@mstdn.social Much more devastating to their valuation would be the loss of a growth sector identity because that underpins their P/E ratio. As soon as they are seen as a mature sector their P/E ratio will plummet
