Again, when feeling down - another tactic is reading up on things I adore. Onfim is one of them. He was a little boy about 7 years old, 800 years ago in Novgorod who was a bit cheeky and used the birch bark note paper ment for class to doodle. As birch bark doesn't dissolve in clay many of his notes are left to posterity. Like him drawing himself as a monster spewing fire with the text: "I am a wild beast!" next to it. Or a knight. Or passing a note to his friend Danilo

    I've posted about it before, I know, but it deserves to be told over and over. Little kids are little kids no matter what. His stick figures and doodles and writing exercises are the same as any little kid now, across the planet. My heart beats extra when I think of the majestic idea that I am looking over the shoulder of a little kid slacking off in class 800 years ago and he is identical to all kids now living, everywhere.
