This administration's energy policy is based on spite and hate. Shocker: the same motivation animates the president's policies across the board. NYT reports: "When the Trump administration canceled more than $7.5 billion in Biden-era federal grants for clean energy projects in October, it framed the move as an urgent corrective to protect taxpayer funds from waste. But it wasn’t true. In little-noticed court documents, federal officials acknowledged this month that they had terminated the funding “based solely” on political criteria, targeting projects in states that were represented by Democrats and had voted for Kamala Harris, the party’s presidential nominee, in the 2024 election." The story continues: "“With one exception,” a lawyer for the Energy Department conceded in a court filing this month, “the 284 terminated grants had a recipient location and/or at least one place of performance in a state that awarded its electoral votes to Kamala Harris in the 2024 election and has two Democratic-caucusing senators.” The lawyer acknowledged that none of the grants were included in the October terminations “based on any programmatic, statutory, cost-reduction or performance-based factor.” https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/24/business/trump-state-grants-canceled.html

@briankrebs@infosec.exchange Note to self: schedule some time next month to pretend to be shocked or disappointed or at least mildly surprised by the news that public policy is set entirely by spite in the administration of a president who is animated entirely by greed, vanity, and pettiness.

  • @briankrebs@infosec.exchange Without warning or notice of any kind that I was aware of, a previously free EV charging at at park-and-ride (blue state) suddenly there are fees. There's a 30 minute grace period after the charging completes, then a per minute fee - which is a good thing because it was obvious that many cars were left overnight. That part was sent as an alert, but no mention of the charging fee.

@briankrebs@infosec.exchange Anyone who believes in coal should google "Black Tuesday St. Louis" Black Tuesday in St. Louis refers to the severe air pollution event on November 28, 1939, when thick black smoke from burning soft coal combined with a temperature inversion to darken the sky so profoundly that streetlights were needed during midday. This event, often called "the day the sun didn't shine," reduced visibility to just a few feet, causing traffic paralysis and earning St. Louis a reputation as the nation's dirtiest city. I can tell you that 20 years later we were still dependent on coal and although the air was a bit better, it was still putrid and made me sick.
