The stress of going through the college process with my kid is really insane. They make it nearly impossible to apply “early decision” to a college because of it’s binding rules… which means that you have to take the chance that you’ll pay for the entire cost. (Some close to 100k a year!) You can legally back out of the contract for monetary issues, but that gets the student and their high school blackballed. I don’t know how anyone in the USA can afford a higher education. My kid did everything right. He worked his tush off. It’s not enough. I’m going more in to debt just traveling to the schools because the universities want to see that the student is truly interested in their school. There are many other issues, but I’m trying to remain my optimistic self…this year is trying to kick my butt, but I won’t let it!

  • @Saltssaltgirl@mas.to Very different in the UK. The Universities are very keen to take everyone who is interested to attend their degree program. They understand that there are lots of options and students will pick what suits them.
