RE: https://mastodon.social/@gwynnion/116976116252877834 What that “easier” assumption misses is that closeted trans lesbian still (often, not always) treat women as “other women” while seeing ourselves as women. My entire experience was men (and women too) telling me I interacted with women “wrong,” thought about women “wrong,” treated women “wrong.” Because so much of male interaction with women is from a DeBeauvoiresque Second Sex perspective, where women are objectified, classified, sexualized, othered, seconded, etc. From the outset, even as a small child, I could not see women that way and refused to act with them that way. This meant that I met a lot of violence because when a male-shaped person is in male spaces and supports women and femininity, identifies with feminity, promotes femininity, as an equality, it is A Problem. But it’s not just a problem from men, who reject it with violence and mockery, it’s a problem from many cis women, who see it as a failure. The problem of the boy-shaped trans girl is that you are expected to be a man, while not wanting to be a man, and simultaneously criticized for never being man enough. And all your interactions with women (because they are almost universally straight women) are tainted by this. “Trans lesbians had it easy” is so far from the actual trans experience and nonsensical that you might as well say “trans lesbians had it purple.”
