And there’s evidence for this theory. I recall Mamdani got Republican voters. Not a lot, but you don’t need a lot. Going back gulp 20 years Obama ran as an outsider—last time that’s happened in a general—and won Indiana. It’s the centrist Republicans centrist Dems keep chasing who rarely show up.

Aaaand right on cue, exactly the sort of rhetoric we *already* know doesn’t engage voters. As someone who has voted D consistently, I’d like to see electable candidates with an actual differentiated vision. This is a pre-defeated narrative designed to apportion and deflect responsibility and blame.
