I shoplifted Zelda II (USA version) as a kid. I never got too much into Zelda II though. back in the day we knew that these games were like, you had to get into the zone, to sit with them. I just experimented a bit and eventually I "passed it forward" to random friend. I used to do this thing where I would like, "borrow" an object to someone then simply "forget" to demand it back. this avoided all the fussy social dynamics of "gifting", while still gifting.
if I'm generous to kid me I could frame both of these habits—stealing, and nonchalant gifting—as part of our budding, almost instinctive rejection of private property. maybe we felt like we could wash away the shame and paranoia of being a Criminal (a dehumanised, scapegoated category in the Brazilian mindset) with something of a Robin Hood deal. dunno, it was all on impulse, childlike.
honestly? I think the lifting was the real game for me. the best part of Zelda II is that it was golden. have you seen it?!? it was so shiny… and, and gold 😵💫 if they didn't want me to steal things they shouldn't make them shiny and pretty and gold :flonshed:
