Mastodon Aliases and Migration 101. The purpose of the move mechanism is to move followers (not posts) to the new Mastodon server. You are locking up your old account and set a redirection to a new one. It does not solve the concern of a Mastodon node go offline unexpectedly. Your old server must be online to confirm the move. Also, move is irreversible. Think before pushing. If your old node is announced to go offline permanently, its admin will probably advise you to migrate your followers. I tell it is a move because old server will dispatch an ActivityPub 'move' method to other servers where your followers are.
