Now dry save the wettest weather, Hōkongō-in's (法金剛院) 'Seijo-no-Taki' (青女の滝 'Blue Woman Falls') is the oldest manmade waterfall in Japan for which we know the names of both patron and builder.

The gardens and waterfall were laid by the Ninna-ji monk Rinken (仁和寺/林賢). 3 years later Empress Taikenmon'in (待賢門院) employed Jōi of Tokudai-ji (徳大寺/浄意) to increase the height of the waterfall from 1.5m to 3.6m, an astonishing height for the time. #仁和寺 #徳大寺
