Remember how I memorized everything my parents played as we were falling asleep? I memorized all of the Tom Lehrer songs on "That was the year that was" which included "The old dope peddler" which I thought was about a guy who wasn't very smart (a dope). So it came up time for show and tell and I didn't have anything to show so I asked my teacher who was probably in her early 20's (1977 or so) if I could sing a song instead. I sang "The old dope peddler" in my squeaky 12 year old voice to my peers, word for word, no mistakes. Obviously I don't remember this clearly but I remember all of the kids in the class not caring at all but my teacher crying. She was smiling but crying and I didn't know why but I'm betting that she still tells that story!
