I'm a linguistic chameleon
I literally did it today with a woman I was chatting with while picking up moving boxes -- she had a strong southern accent, not sure which one, but it I had to consciously stop myself from drawling.
When I spent a month in Canada, it was VERY hard.
I did come back from Canada with the ability to do a reasonable Canadian accent now (more Ontario-ish, but not w/the French touches, so Southern Ontario-ish) at least enough to wow my fellow Americans. 🤣

@susankayequinn@wandering.shop Ugh, like when I'm in 🇳🇱 and I have to speak in that strange local accent; they drop a lot of the 🇫🇷 words we use, they speak without the Norman-invasion vowel shift we use, and they do lots of weird little synonym substitutions (prattle instead of talk, lope instead of walk, although that last one is a word my Newcastle 🇬🇧 nana would use 🤔). 🙂 I find I really have to shift my accent when I get further eastwards up the Rhein, too.
