@knutson_brain@sfba.social It is accurate in a certain way to say that the rate of major scientific advances has slowed. There has not been an experiment that significantly proved or disproved the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum physics, for instance.

@mattsheffield@mastodon.social Well, speaking for my own field (bioscience) we have seen paradigm shifting breakthroughs in neuroimaging, neuromanipulation, gene manipulation, and viral prevention in the last three decades … ALL due to publically funded research. The ROI on this type of research is over 100%. The ROI on my biosciences index fund is hardly within an order of magnitude of that. And these are very sciences they wish to defund. Make it make economic sense.
